Plane, Train & Newcastle Metro Arrivals

The Metro from Newcastle airport passes through Newcastle mainline railway station on its way to Sunderland central railway station in the direction of South Hylton. For people arriving by train at Newcastle mainline station, the short walk to the Metro is clearly signed.

Once on the Metro, we recommend that you alight at the Sunderland stop, where you will find a taxi rank just outside the station.  You can then go straight to your hotel or guesthouse in Roker, which is a short distance from the St Peters Campus.

There is a Metro stop at St Peters, just before Sunderland, which is a 5 minute walk to the St Peter’s Campus, but it has no taxi rank.

Roker to St Peter’s Campus

A map is attached which shows you the route from Roker to St Peter’s Campus. This is about a 15-20 minute walk. However, on Wednesday morning (13 April) a minibus service for conference delegates will run from outside the Best Western Roker hotel to the David Puttnam Media Centre between 8.45 and 9.45am.  On Thursday and Friday mornings the service will run between 8.00 and 8.45am.  A full minibus service timetable will be in your delegate pack.

If you are staying at Clanny House and require including in the minibus morning pickup, please phone the minibus provider on 077181 36680.  For information, a map is attached which shows you the route from Clanny House to St Peter’s Campus.

Car parking

There is parking available at St Peter’s Campus. On arrival from Wednesday onwards, park your car, go to the David Puttnam Media Centre foyer and ask for a day voucher which you will need to display in your car. You will need to do this for each day of the conference.

If you arrive by car on Tuesday for the conference registration or technical consultation, please use the visitors car parking bays in the car park between the David Puttnam Media Centre and the National Glass Centre and pay at the machine.  The day passes mentioned above are for the conference days only.

1) East Coast trains from London, Kings Cross station to Newcastle, where you change to the Newcastle metro or mainline train to Sunderland – the metro takes about 27 mins.

2) There are also infrequent but direct trains, London Kings Cross to Sunderland, on the Grand Central Line.

3) Domestic and some international flights arrive at Newcastle Airport.

The Newcastle metro runs from the airport, via Newcastle mainline station to Sunderland.  Travel time to Sunderland from the airport via the metro is approximately 52 minutes

4) From Sunderland mainline railway station you can take a taxi to University of Sunderland St Peters Campus where the conference is being held.
